(UNDERSTANDING) THE NEXUS OF CLIMATE CHANGE, HEALTH, AND GENDER TOWARDS TRANSITIONING TO THE BETTER NORMAL: A GOVERNMENT AND CIVIL SOCIETY DIALOGUE ON LEARNING FROM CLIMATE CRISES AND THE PANDEMIC
BACKGROUND
Climate Change is the defining threat of our time, it exacerbates the many threats, on ones well-being, survival and access to services, including education, water and sanitation, nutrition and health. Women are more than 50% of the world’s population, but are still a minority compounding their risks and greater burdens from climate change impacts, especially those living in poorest and vulnerable situations. Their lack of participation in climate-related planning, policy-making and implementation widens the gender gap and development globally.
In the Philippines alone, various gender issues emerge from the COVID19 pandemic and the onslaught of extreme weather events of recent and in the past. These ranges from vulnerability to sexual abuses, mental health issues and inaccessibility to health care facilities: some of which are apparent in visible form), some left in the shadows, both needing closer analysis and due consideration.
Thus, this event aims to create a platform for stakeholder dialogue to surface the interlinkages of gender, climate and health towards developing a joint agenda of the government and civil society on enhancing climate change, health, and gender policy implementation and monitoring towards the better normal.
OBJECTIVES
- To create an enabling platform for dialogue on the nexus of health, climate and gender dimensions that could result into policy-formulation and improve monitoring of the National Climate Change Action Plan
- To surface entry points in updating policies on mainstreaming gender and development (GAD) in climate change and health discussions;
- To revisit the roles and strategies of government institutions and civil society in the implementation of GAD-, Climate-, and Health-related policies
TARGET PARTICIPANTS
The target participants for the event are the following:
- Government organizations
- Civil Society Organizations
